Fitness boost for Liverpool duo

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says Steven Gerrard and Pepe Reina will be fit by the time the new season starts.

Steven Gerrard should be fit to face Sunderland.

Captain Gerrard is recovering from groin surgery undergone in April while keeper Reina had a double hernia operation in June and both were left out of the club’s pre-season tour of China. However, Dalglish is confident they will both be ready for the start of the Premier League season.
Liverpool’s first game is against Sunderland on 13th August and they are 4/11 for a home win while Sunderland can be backed at 7/1. A draw can be backed at 10/3.

“Steven is injured at the moment and that’s why he’s not here with us,” said Dalglish told the press in China.

“He just needs to get the final couple of niggles out of the way and then he will be fit for the start of the season against Sunderland.
“I know people are disappointed he isn’t here with us but the disappointment would be far greater if he couldn’t play the first (Premier League) game.
“That is why he has stayed at home, to rest and to have the best chance of being fit for the start of the season.
Of Reina, Dalglish added: ”He isn’t fit and so had to stay at home. He should be ready for the start of the season.”
The Liverpool boss also revealed there will be more transfer activity at Anfield following the captures of Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson.
“We are happy with the business we have done so far,” he added.
“Hopefully we will do some more business before the window closes but I’m not going to give names because that’s disrespectful.
“We are looking to bring other players in and that could mean we expect some to leave.”
