Luke Donald accepts that he is under growing pressure to win his first Major, as he prepares for the US PGA Championship in Atlanta.

Luke Donald hopes to break his Major duck this weekend in Atlanta.

The Englishman currently tops the world rankings, but has yet to taste Major success and admits that he needs to do so to silence the doubters.

He told reporters: “Majors are in this day and age made out to be the biggest deal. People put a lot of pressure on the guys who haven’t won.

“Sometimes you can go to these events and try too hard. You feel a little bit more uptight.

“Sometimes it’s harder to let it go and just play the way you know how to play. There’s a little added tension, a little bit more anxiety to try and perform well.”

Donald is 14/1 to break his Major drought at Johns Creek, with compatriot Lee Westwood 14/1 and home hope Rickie Fowler 30/1.

Westwood, who like Donald still awaits a first major crown, is hoping that work with sports psychologist Bob Rotella will pay off, with relaxation also a key part of his approach.

“You’ll see me not trying,” he said. “When you get into those positions, just enjoy it and have a clear mind – play like it doesn’t really mean anything.

“I’ve done all the hard work now, done it for 20 years – it’s time to just relax and let it flow.”
