Alonso wary of Ronaldo focusCristiano Ronaldo has been in scintillating form in recent games.

Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso has warned his side not to focus too much on Cristiano Ronaldo when they take on Portugal in the semi-finals of Euro 2012.

Real Madrid ace Ronaldo has sparked into life with three goals in his last two games and club colleague Alonso is well aware of the capabilities of the richly-talented forward.

The important thing is to focus on ourselves and make sure we are playing at our optimum level.

However, Alonso insists that Spain need to focus primarily on their own performance, as he told Reuters: “We know Cristiano perfectly and he has been playing at an incredible level all season at Real Madrid.

“But the important thing is to focus on ourselves and make sure we are playing at our optimum level.

“Maybe before the game there will be a warmer greeting than usual because he’s your club team-mate, but in the end you are going to be fighting your own corner.

“Ultimately everyone is fighting for their own goals.”

Portugal will be without Helder Postiga for Wednesday evening’s last-four showdown in Donetsk, with the striker having suffered a thigh injury in the 1-0 quarter-final win over the Czech Republic.

Defending champions Spain are 4/9 to reach the final, with Portugal 7/4, while Ronaldo is 5/1 to open the scoring in the Donbass Arena.
