Cahill tips Torres to be main man

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres can finally silence his doubters this season according to Stamford Bridge team-mate Gary Cahill.

Both men were on target for the Blues in their 4-2 win at home to Reading on Wednesday evening, with Torres having also found the net in the 3-2 Community Shield loss to Manchester City in the season-opener nearly two weeks ago.

He is the main man this year and has got off to a fantastic start.

However, the £50million signing from Liverpool still has much to do to live up to his price-tag, having scored a mere eight goals in 48 Premier League outings for Chelsea to date.

Referencing Didier Drogba’s summer exit from the Blues, Cahill said: “Maybe he will relish being the main man this season. It is good to see him score so early in the season.

“He has dealt with pressure before and that won’t be any different for him this time. He is the main man this year and has got off to a fantastic start.”

Torres scored just six league goals last season and is 7/1 to be the leading scorer in the Premier League this term, with Manchester United new boy Robin van Persie 15/2 and Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez 15/2.

Next up for Torres and Chelsea is a Saturday teatime clash with Newcastle United, with the Blues 1/2 to win at Stamford Bridge and 13/2 to triumph by a 2-0 scoreline.
