Amir Khan to face Molina

Amir Khan has announced his return to ring with a bout against America’s Carlos Molina this December and will be trained by Virgil Hunter.

The Bolton boxer recently lost his IBF and WBA light-welterweight titles to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia. Subsequently parting with esteemed trainer Freddie Roach.

We could pick an easy fight but we’re going to go straight back up there again and fight the tough fights, hopefully get a win and bring those titles back to Britain.

The fight is a slightly unusual contest, as Molina has only ever fought at lightweight.

The American of Mexican descent has 17 wins and a draw from his 18 fights. However, he has never fought further than 10 rounds.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 25-year-old said: “Virgil Hunter is a good trainer. I like the way he trains his fighters and also he’s got so much time on his hands and will be spending 100 per cent of his time with me.

“He also coaches Andre Ward,  who defensively and offensively is one of the best in the world.

“My next fight will be either 1 December or 15 December. We could pick an easy fight but we’re going to go straight back up there again and fight the tough fights, hopefully get a win and bring those titles back to Britain.”

Meanwhile, Khan’s compatriot David Haye still remains in talks with Vitali Klitschko’s camp over a potential fight. Haye lost his WBO and IBF belt to Klitschko’s brother, Wladimir, last year and quit boxing, but has since come out of retirement in a bid regain his world titles.

Haye is 3/1 to defeat Klitschko if the pair do arrange a fight, while the reigning champion can be backed at 1/4 to come out on top.

David Haye eyes defining Klitschko fight

David Haye is calling on WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to bow out of boxing with a ‘defining fight’ against him.

David Haye eyes defining Klitschko fightDavid Haye is hopeful of securing a fight against Vitali Klitschko.

The 31-year-old British former WBA champion is desperate for another crack at a world title after losing his belt in a one-sided points defeat at the hands of Vitali’s brother, Wladimir, in Hamburg last year.

And, having secured a convincing domestic victory against Dereck Chisora at Upton Park in July, Haye has now issued a fresh challenge to Klitschko to go head-to-head in the ring.

I want to convince him he’s not had a defining fight. His biggest fight was against Lennox Lewis which he lost.

David Haye

The 41-year-old Ukrainian has already intimated that his fourth round win against Manuel Charr in Moscow on Saturday could be his final bout as he is looking to focus on a career in politics with the Mayor of Kiev role now in his sights.

But Haye wants Klitschko to have one last big fight before hanging up his gloves.

He told Sky Sports News: “I want to convince him he’s not had a defining fight. His biggest fight was against Lennox Lewis which he lost. Although he has a long string of victories, none have been against opponents who have brought any excitement and entertainment.”

Haye added: “For someone who wants to retire, you want to retire on a big fight and that fight against Charr was definitely not a high.”

Haye is 3/1 to defeat Klitschko should the duo organise a showdown, while the reigning champion is 1/4 to retain his WBC belt.
