Kauto Star (right) is fit to take on Long Run (left) again in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Two-time winner Kauto Star has been passed fit to run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday, having recovered sufficiently from a fall suffered during gallops.
The 12-year-old, who won the Gold Cup in both 2007 and 2009, had been a major doubt last week, but has made solid progress in the last few days and is now ready to take on the challenge of trying to defeat Long Run.
Barring any mishaps in the next few days, Kauto lines up for the Gold Cup.

Long Run, who won the race 12 months ago, is 13/8 to repeat that feat this year, with Kauto Star 10/3.
Trainer Paul Nicholls confirmed in his column on Betfair: “Clive (Smith, owner) and I have given Kauto Star the green light for the Cheltenham Gold Cup after a very good schooling session on the grass this morning.
“(Jockey) Ruby Walsh came over to school him and Kauto was awesome, just as I’d thought he would be. He jumped six fences and he was foot perfect and looked magnificent.
“I have just put the phone down to Clive and, barring any mishaps in the next few days, Kauto lines up for the Gold Cup. We are looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile, trainer David Pipe has confirmed that his charge Grands Crus will give the Gold Cup a miss and will instead run in Wednesday’s RSA Chase, where the novice is 6/4 to take the honours, with Bobs Worth 11/4.
