City boosted by Kompany return

Vincent Kompany has been given the green light to return and lead Manchester City’s title charge.

Vincent Kompany is returning at a vital time of the season.

The Blues skipper has missed the last four games with a troublesome calf injury and has been receiving intensive treatment around the clock to have him back for this weekend’s home clash against Sunderland.

The Belgium international is the outstanding defender in the league this season and has been a main reason why Roberto Mancini’s side topped the table for five months.

And it can be no coincidence that City fell three points behind leaders Manchester United whilst Kompany was on the sidelines.

We have to expect that United are going to win quite a few games before the end of the season.

City can reclaim top spot with a win, as well as equalling Liverpool’s all-time record of 21 consecutive home wins in the top flight, which they set way back in 1971-72. Mancini’s men are 11/2 to win 3-0, and are 4/6 to keep a clean sheet.

Striker Sergio Aguero is set to miss out with a foot injury and means Carlos Tevez, who is 15/4 to score first, is on standby to make his first start in over six months.

City’s assistant boss David Platt insists: “We have to expect that United are going to win quite a few games before the end of the season and, equally, we expect to win quite a few points and, as a result of that, you think it’s going to go very, very close.

“What is the pressure? The pressure is you have to go and perform. Whatever the situation, whether it goes back and to, back and to, and the so-called pressure is coming, you have got to enjoy that – because it ain’t going away.”
