David Haye is calling on WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to bow out of boxing with a ‘defining fight’ against him.

David Haye eyes defining Klitschko fightDavid Haye is hopeful of securing a fight against Vitali Klitschko.

The 31-year-old British former WBA champion is desperate for another crack at a world title after losing his belt in a one-sided points defeat at the hands of Vitali’s brother, Wladimir, in Hamburg last year.

And, having secured a convincing domestic victory against Dereck Chisora at Upton Park in July, Haye has now issued a fresh challenge to Klitschko to go head-to-head in the ring.

I want to convince him he’s not had a defining fight. His biggest fight was against Lennox Lewis which he lost.

The 41-year-old Ukrainian has already intimated that his fourth round win against Manuel Charr in Moscow on Saturday could be his final bout as he is looking to focus on a career in politics with the Mayor of Kiev role now in his sights.

But Haye wants Klitschko to have one last big fight before hanging up his gloves.

He told Sky Sports News: “I want to convince him he’s not had a defining fight. His biggest fight was against Lennox Lewis which he lost. Although he has a long string of victories, none have been against opponents who have brought any excitement and entertainment.”

Haye added: “For someone who wants to retire, you want to retire on a big fight and that fight against Charr was definitely not a high.”

Haye is 3/1 to defeat Klitschko should the duo organise a showdown, while the reigning champion is 1/4 to retain his WBC belt.
