England boss Roy Hodgson refused to be downbeat following his side’s 2-0 defeat at home to Chile.
Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez scored twice for the visitors as the England manager saw a 10-game unbeaten run come to an end at Wembley.
Hodgson, however, feels important lessons have been learned by his side as a result of the defeat and insists England will respond and “retain a sense of perspective”.
“There were good lessons for us to learn. We gave players a chance to play for England,” he said.
“I can’t talk away or explain away a defeat which I thought came to a Chile side who played very well. It’s not all doom and gloom. It’s how you deal with defeats and we’ll retain a sense of perspective.”
Hodgson handed debuts to Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster and Southampton pair Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez, and the former Fulham boss was satisfied with their performances.
On the three debutants, he added: “Forster didn’t have to make many saves but made quite a good one in the first half. He was chanceless for both of the goals.
“I thought Adam Lallana did well in a debut match against such good opposition and I thought it was a very big ask for Rodriguez to play in that position, but I have so many wide players injured that his debut maybe came a bit earlier than he would have liked against opposition that was maybe a bit stronger than he would have liked.
“I am certainly not disappointed with any of them.”
England take on Germany in another friendly at Wembley on Tuesday and Hodgson is set to name a stronger side for the visit of the Germans as Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka and Daniel Sturridge are all expected to make their returns.
Joe Hart will also return in goal, but defender Phil Jones may miss out after suffering a groin injury on Friday.
England are 20/1 to win the World Cup in Brazil Next summer, while Hodgson’s side are 9/4 to be knocked out in the group stages and 3/1 to exit at the quarter-final stage.
