Cesc Fabregas has played down suggestions that he is set to become a target for Liverpool and Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Fabregas plays down move rumours

The former Arsenal skipper has been forced to battle far harder for a place in the Barcelona first team than was ever the case during his spell with the Gunners.

The whole situation is exaggerated. I am happy.

And speculation that he could be on his way from the club has been increasing in the football crazy Catalonian capital as a result.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers – despite the urgency to sign a striker – is understood to be monitoring the situation and Sir Alex Ferguson is also a big admirer.

But Fabregas insists that he’s ready to disappoint all-comers and revealed that his dream is to end his career as a Barcelona player.

He said: “The whole situation is exaggerated. I am happy. I am at the club I have wanted to be at for many years. I am very calm. I am doing my job and making it difficult for my coach to leave me out. I want to retire at the Nou Camp.”

The Catalans are 2/5 to be crowned Spanish champions this season, with Real 15/8, while Madrid are 9/2 to triumph in the Champions League.
