Hodgson confirms Euro 2012 squad

Roy Hodgson has named his final 23-man England squad for the European Championship, as the Three Lions go in search of a first-ever European title.

Everton’s Phil Jagielka is confirmed as the man to replace the injured Gareth Barry, while Birmingham City’s Jack Butland is the third goalkeeper named in the party, following the withdrawal of Norwich City’s John Ruddy due to a finger injury.

Jagielka’s selection means that Phil Jones may be utilised in a midfield role, with Hodgson having opted against calling up Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson as a like-for-like replacement for Barry.

Defender Glen Johnson (toe) and striker Danny Welbeck (ankle) are also included despite concerns over their fitness, as England prepare to take on France, Sweden and Ukraine in Group D.

They open up against Les Bleus on Monday 11th June, before taking on Sweden four days later and then finish their group campaign on Tuesday 19th June against co-hosts Ukraine.

England are 10/1 to be crowned European champions and are 9/2 to reach the final, while Andy Carroll is 40/1 to be the leading scorer in the tournament.
