Michael Phelps keen to forget poor startOlympic legend Michael Phelps has vowed to bounce back from the disappointment of finishing fourth in the final of the 400m individual medley.

Phelps, who already has 14 Gold medals to his name, qualified as eighth fastest for the final and was never in the hunt for a 15th title, with fellow American superstar Ryan Lochte taking the gold.

I have a bunch of other races and hopefully we can finish a lot better than we started.

Lochte is now 1/2 to win the 200m individual medley on Thursday, with Phelps 13/8, but the 14-time champion is determined to make up for an early disappointment.

Phelps said: “It’s okay. It’s just really frustrating to start off on a bad note like this.

“It’s pretty upsetting, but I think the biggest thing now is just to try to get past this and move forward.

“I have a bunch of other races and hopefully we can finish a lot better than we started. That’s what I’m going to try to do.”

Four years ago Phelps triumphed in the 200m individual medley in Beijing, with Lochte having to settle for bronze behind Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh.
