Ozil backed to shine

Sami Khedira is confident that his Real Madrid team-mate Mesut Ozil will be a key man when Germany face Greece in the Euro 2012 quarter-finals.

Both men played vital roles as Joachim Low’s side won all three of their group games to set up a clash against unfancied Greece on Friday, with a spot in the semi-finals in Ukraine and Poland at stake.

We players value him, he works a lot for the team.

Germany are 9/4 to win their first tournament since Euro 96, when they beat Czech Republic in the final, while Greece are 18/1 to edge to a shock 1-0 victory on Friday.

Low has hinted that he wants more from midfield schemer Ozil and Khedira thinks his colleague is up to the task.

He said: “Mesut has taken another step in the past one or two years. We players value him, he works a lot for the team. Now he knows how to create space by running.

“His genius moments will come, simply because he has the quality for that to happen.”
