Ricky Hatton appears to be on the verge of returning to the ring after the British Boxing Board of Control are set to give the welterweight boxer his licence back.

Ricky Hatton set for returnThe 33-year-old, who has not stepped into the ring since his 2009 second-round knock out defeat to Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas, could be strapping on his gloves again after a meeting in Cardiff.

His licence will be granted pending the completion of medicals. He spoke well, looks fit and he wants to have one more hurrah.

The former two-weight world champion still has to complete a set of medicals.

General secretary Robert Smith said: “His licence will be granted pending the completion of medicals.

“He spoke well, looks fit and he wants to have one more hurrah.”

The ‘Hitman’ was subject to allegations of cocaine abuse two years ago but Smith believes the boxer has cleaned up his act and their will be a press conference on Friday with further details regarding the Stockport born boxer’s comeback.

“He was very frank,” Smith added. “He admitted things he had done wrong and was looking to put it behind him.

“He looked very well and spoke very well and is entitled to another opportunity, pending his medicals.”
