Arsene Wenger says his focus is on his Arsenal team as a whole and not the potential midfield pairing of record signing Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla.

Ozil has shaken off a slight knock picked up on international duty with Germany to be ready to face Norwich City on Saturday, with Cazorla likely to be included in the matchday squad after shrugging off an ankle injury which has kept him sidelined since early September.

However, Wenger is more interested in seeing his side continue their fine form of recent times, with the Gunners unbeaten in all competitions since the opening day of the new season.

“You want all of your best players to play together in a very positive way,” Wenger said.

“I’m very happy at the moment with the team that has played up until now, so I do not expect anything special.

“I believe what is important is that instead of focusing on one or two players is to focus on developing ourselves as a team, improving our team play because there is still room for improvement.

“There’s still the desire inside the team to do that.”

The injury news for Wenger is improved further with defender Bacary Sagna back in the fold after hamstring problems, giving the Arsenal boss plenty of selection dilemmas.

The Gunners, who have lost just one of their last 13 meetings with Norwich, are 3/10 to win at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and 8/1 to triumph by a 3-0 scoreline, with Ozil 13/2 to open the scoring.

However, Wenger is wary of reading too much into the opening couple of months of the campaign, with Arsenal currently top of the table with 15 points from a possible 18.

“What is important is to put that all into perspective and you know that it’s the hype around the game,” Wenger told reporters.

“It is positive because it shows the huge interest, but as well people tend to judge the moment as the definitive situation – however, it is just a photo of the situation, of the moment you talk.

“We want of course to win trophies, but that is all (still) to do. The only way we have a chance to do it is to try to focus on the way we play.”

Wenger has one fresh injury problem for the trip to the Black Country, with French defender Bacary Sagna suffering with a hamstring injury and facing around three weeks on the sidelines.

“We have got to pick ourselves up and we need to put in better performances and win games.”

The north Londoners have made two close-season offers to tempt the controversial Uruguayan to the Emirates Stadium – the second being a club-record £40million plus £1.

Anfield officials have so resisted all bids for the 26-year-old but Wenger said he was prepared to play the waiting game.

“We are not close to signing Suarez…or anyone else,” he said.

“We are ready to do quick deals but all the transfers do not depend only on us. We are prepared to wait.”

The Gunners have already lost out on the signing of new Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain and Wenger said it was important that he put quality ahead of quantity in what could prove to be a crucial recruitment drive.

The Frenchman added Arsenal will be competitive next season – regardless of whether he was successful in his efforts to strengthen the squad.

“With or without additions we can be title challengers next season,” he said.

“We try to do the job and we will try to do it well, but nothing has been concluded with anybody.”

He added: “What we want is not a name but a good player. The name is less important. What is more important is the quality of the player. At the moment I must tell you we are not close to signing anybody.”

His current deal expires at the end of the forthcoming season and earlier in the summer, he was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club later appointed Laurent Blanc as manager, but some believe that this is only a temporary solution until Wenger becomes available.

However, speaking to several national newspapers, Wenger played down the PSG link, saying he was fully committed to the north Londoners.

He said: “I am committed to staying longer at this club. I’ve already had a chat with Ivan. It went very well, not a problem.

“The link with PSG is there because I’m French and I know the owners. But if that was the case then I would be there already. I’m not at PSG because my heart is with Arsenal.”

Arsenal have not won a trophy under Wenger for eight years, but the manager believes the tide will soon turn as they are now able and willing to compete with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City in the transfer market.

The Gunners have been linked with Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain in recent weeks, and Wenger admits all three are “realistic targets quality-wise”, before continuing:

“We have better financial resources than the years before and it is resources we have created ourselves. That is massively important to us. For years we were out of the race for the top-level transfers but we are coming back now because we are in a better financial situation and also because of Financial Fair Play.”

Arsenal are 10/1 to win the FA Cup in the 2013-14 season, 9/1 to win the League Cup and 10/1 to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004. United are 9/4 to win the league, while City are 9/4.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is determined to focus his players’ minds on the coming campaign rather than the transfer situation surrounding Robin van Persie.

“After seven games we had lost four and we have learned that for us it is vital for us to focus on the start of the season, rather than on any transfers,” Wenger said ahead of a pre-season trip to Asia.

The Frenchman, whose side are 8/13 to finish in the top four and 12/1 to win the Premier League, is also aware that silverware has to be won to silence the club’s doubters.

He added: “We are now 15 years on the trot in the Champions League and I believe that shows that our model works.

“On the other hand we are very ambitious, we want as well to win trophies.

“It’s not enough just to be in the Champions League and we are focused on that of course.”
