The Midlands giants have already picked up shock victories against Arsenal and Manchester City so far this season and Paul Lambert’s men will look to stop the recent rot against the north Londoners when they visit Villa Park.

Andre Villas-Boas’s men have not conceded a goal in three straight wins against Villa in all competitions and will be aiming to bounce back from a surprise home defeat by West Ham last time out.

Agbonlahor says his team-mates have no reason to fear the capital club and is confident they will be competitive in front of their own supporters.

He told the official club website: “With a good crowd, good tactics and a good team spirit, you can beat anyone on your day.

“We have Tottenham now on Sunday. You always look forward to these big games.

“We know it’s going to be tough but we know it will be different from the cup one. We will try our hardest that’s for sure.”

Belgium striker Christian Benteke will be assessed by club officials in the hope he can shake off a hip injury for the visit of Tottenham.

The north Londoners had hopes of joining Arsenal and Liverpool at the top of the table but were left reeling as three goals in 13 second-half minutes secured Sam Allardyce’s side a first top-flight win at White Hart Lane since 1999.

Winston Reid, Ricardo Vaz Te and Ravel Morrison supplied the killer blows as Tottenham fell to a second top-flight defeat of the season so far.

“It is (a wake-up call),” he said. “This fixture was a bit dangerous.

“If we won everything [it] would be spectacular but if you draw or lose you drop into a position you don’t want to be. Either way, we have done well so far.”

The Portuguese coach felt his players never came to terms with West Ham’s physical approach and called for an immediate response when Tottenham travel to take on Aston Villa on 20th October.

He added: “The second half we were not first to the ball in the 50-50 duels. They were a bit more aggressive and punished us.

“We have conceded three goals but before we were the team who conceded the least chances. This time West Ham managed to surprise us and we have to bounce back.”

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says David Silva is unlikely to be fit for their encounter with Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Spain international has been struggling with a groin injury which he picked up whilst on duty with the national side.

Silva is still a doubt for City’s trip to Villa Park this weekend but Pellegrini is hoping to be able to call up the playmaker for their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich next Wednesday.

He said: “We will see the next day what happens with David.

“The doctor can say better than me what will happen. I don’t think he can play on Saturday but maybe for the next game of the Champions League, I think he could be fit.”

City are 1/2 to win, 3/1 to draw and 6/1 to lose to Villa on Saturday.

The Belgium international was forced off just before the half-hour mark at Carrow Road, with Libor Kozak coming on to score the only goal of the game.

Kozak also started in the midweek 4-0 Capital One Cup loss at home to Spurs and is likely to lead the line against Manchester City at Villa Park on Saturday.

Villans boss Paul Lambert said after a dismal defeat by Tottenham: “It is not as bad as we feared it was going to be. Maybe four, five, six weeks or so.

“The medical people give you the best and worst-case scenario. You are never quite sure until you hear from the professor.

“Thankfully it is not too serious. It has got a lot better and he is feeling a lot better and the international break certainly helps us.”

Benteke had started the new season in fine form, netting five goals in six games before being struck down by injury.

Paolo Di Canio: Villa win would be crucial

Paolo Di Canio believes that a win at fellow strugglers Aston Villa on Monday will all but secure the Premier League survival of his Sunderland side.

Three points at Villa Park would move the Black Cats eight points clear of the drop zone with just three games to play and Di Canio is hoping for a third consecutive victory.

He told reporters: “I have faith in the players and I was always sure we’d have a chance.

“There are four games left and if we win the next one it’s 99.9 per cent certain that we stay up.”

Sunderland are 12/5 to secure a victory at Villa Park on Monday evening and are 11/1 to win by a 2-1 margin, while they are 11/4 to keep a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, former Villa defender Carlos Cuellar, who heads back to his former club, has hailed the positive impact made by Di Canio since his arrival at the club, with two successive victories helping ease relegation fears on Wearside.

He told The Chronicle: “We believe in him because he told us ‘do that and that and you will be better’ – we did those things, we played better and won.

“But we can’t switch off just because we have won one or two good games. We have done nothing yet. Mathematically, we are not yet safe.”

The game’s longest-serving manager was speaking after seeing his side twice come from behind to claim a point in a 2-2 draw against West Ham at the Boleyn on Wednesday thanks to a Robin van Persie equaliser.

“We had to stand up to a lot but our players kept going,” Ferguson said. “We were behind twice but we came back and I thought we played like champions.”

The result – coupled by a 1-0 win for Manchester City against Wigan – means the Old Trafford club lead the Premier League table by 13 points and now need a maximum of six points from the remaining five games to usurp their local rivals and be crowned champions.
