Rafa Benitez hopes his Chelsea side can finally secure some silverware this season by winning the Europa League Final after losing three finals earlier in the campaign.

Europa League Final Chelsea v Benfica David Luiz scored a brilliant goal for Chelsea against Basel.

After defeats in the Club World Cup final, Community Shield and Super Cup this season, interim Blues boss Benitez has guided his side into the Europa League final where they will come up against Benfica in Amsterdam on 15th May.

It’ll be tough because Benfica are a very, very dangerous team and hard to play against.

Chelsea did so by coming back from a goal behind to beat Swiss side FC Basel 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday to seal a 5-2 aggregate victory.

Benfica, 5/4 to win the Europa League, were also given a scare before edging past Turkish side Fenerbahce in the other semi-final.

“We have one more opportunity to win a big title,” said Benitez. “We have lost three finals this season.

“I am really pleased for them and everyone here. I think we have had a good atmosphere in the side. The players are working hard.

“It’ll be tough because Benfica are a very, very dangerous team and hard to play against, but at least we are there. With the commitment and the quality, we’ll have a chance for sure.”

Chelsea, 4/6 to win the Europa League, still have eyes on a top-four finish in the Premier League and face champions Manchester United this weekend.

Chelsea, 1/12 to clinch a top-four finish, are 10/1 to beat Manchester United 2-1, with Fernando Torres available at 13/2 to open the scoring at Old Trafford.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed his determination to win the Europa League title this term.

Rio Ferdinand has his sights set on Europa League glory.

The Premier League champions are currently preparing for their last-32 second-leg clash with Dutch giants Ajax, having already secured a 2-0 victory at the Amsterdam Arena.

United also find themselves in the running for the domestic title, with just two points separating them from rivals Manchester City at the top of the table.

Having dominated much of the contest in the Netherlands, United are looking to book their place in the last-16 of the Europa League, as they hope to bring more European success to the Theatre of Dreams.

Having disappointed in the Champions League this term, Ferdinand is determined to give the United supporters something to cheer about.

The England centre-back said: “We know we’ve got fans to go out and impress – we want them talking about us in the right way.

“As players we demand the highest standards of ourselves and if we don’t meet them the dressing room isn’t a nice place to be.

“You don’t want to be in a position where you’re going into a game and you’re not fighting for titles.”

Rio Ferdinand believes team-mate Ryan Giggs has a major role to play in Manchester United’s quest for glory in the Premier League and Europa League.

Ryan Giggs is closing in on 900 Manchester United appearances.

On Thursday, they travel to face Ajax in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 encounter, with United at 4/5 to win, 5/2 to draw and 7/2 to lose in the Netherlands.

Giggs may or may not feature against the Dutch giants, but Ferdinand is certain the 38-year-old will be an integral part of any success United achieve at home or in Europe for the remainder of the campaign.

“He has been blessed with a tremendous physique. He is not carrying any weight, he’s not had any serious injuries and he manages himself really well. To have that many appearances at one club is phenomenal. Words can’t describe how great that is,” said Ferdinand of Giggs, who is one appearance away from 900 for the club.

“He is still one of the better players in training and in the games he’s one of the best too. He can play on both sides of the pitch and in midfield. That tells you he is not getting in because of who he is or what he’s done – he’s getting in the team on merit.”

Giggs played a pivotal role in United’s crucial victory over Liverpool on Saturday, re-affirming Ferdinand’s belief the Welshman brings the same energy to big matches as any of the younger players at the club.

“He is a great player,” he added. ”When he first came into the Premier League he was like a breath of fresh air, so to watch him continue on from where he started as a youngster is fantastic.”

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after Harry Redknapp revealed he is to undergo an ankle operation.

Harry Redknapp is disappointed to lose Tom Huddlestone for part of the season.

Huddlestone last appeared on 28th August in the 5-1 home defeat to Manchester City but will now be out of action for some time.

“He needs another operation,” confirmed Redknapp. “He’s already had one but there is still a problem with him. It’s a blow. He will be out for a while.”

The 24-year-old made the most starts of any Spurs outfield player in the 2009/10 season and has captained the team on several occasions, including against Inter Milan in the Champions League last season.

Spurs take on Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League on Thursday evening and are 14/1 to win 5-0. A 2-2 draw is at 33/1 while a 2-1 victory for the visitors can be backed at 40/1.
