Sebastian Vettel has insisted he has no regrets for winning the Malaysian Grand Prix, as he prepares for the next race in Shanghai on Sunday.
Much has been written about the German overtaking his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber in Sepang nearly three weeks ago, having disobeyed team orders to win his first race of the 2013 campaign.
Ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend, Vettel has stated he has no regrets for taking the chequered flag in South East Asia but admitted he has apologised to his team for going against his instructions.
He said: “I didn’t mean to ignore the team’s order. I got a call on the radio which I didn’t understand but which I should have understood. That’s why I have apologised – because, with that action, I put myself above the team. That wasn’t my intention, although whether you believe me or not is up to you.
“I apologised to the team because the last thing I want as a team member is to disobey a team order. My intention as a racing driver was to win the race and I don’t apologise for winning the race.”
Vettel is 15/8 to win the Chinese GP this weekend, with Webber at 8/1 to take the chequered flag.
