Sebastian Vettel No Vettel apology for win

Sebastian Vettel has insisted he has no regrets for winning the Malaysian Grand Prix, as he prepares for the next race in Shanghai on Sunday.

Sebastian Vettel No Vettel apology for win

Much has been written about the German overtaking his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber in Sepang nearly three weeks ago, having disobeyed team orders to win his first race of the 2013 campaign.

Ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend, Vettel has stated he has no regrets for taking the chequered flag in South East Asia but admitted he has apologised to his team for going against his instructions.

He said: “I didn’t mean to ignore the team’s order. I got a call on the radio which I didn’t understand but which I should have understood. That’s why I have apologised – because, with that action, I put myself above the team. That wasn’t my intention, although whether you believe me or not is up to you.

“I apologised to the team because the last thing I want as a team member is to disobey a team order. My intention as a racing driver was to win the race and I don’t apologise for winning the race.”

Vettel is 15/8 to win the Chinese GP this weekend, with Webber at 8/1 to take the chequered flag.

Webber targets Monaco win

Webber targets Monaco win

Red Bull’s Mark Webber believes that a switch back to super soft tyres could help him triumph at the Monaco Grand Prix, just as it did two years ago.

Webber is 25/1 to win Sunday’s race while Sebastian Vettel can be backed at6/1, Jenson Button at 8/1 and Fernando Alonso at 4/1.

Two years ago, Webber won the Monaco GP and that victory is widely regarded as the greatest of his career. At that time, he was in desperate need of points to stay close to the leading duo of Vettel and Alonso in the table and he managed to do that in a very pressurised situation.

I definitely think there can be a sixth different winner this weekend.

The 2012 season is at the same juncture once again and the Aussie veteran is hoping that he will be able to repeat his remarkable performance of 2010 this weekend with the use of the super soft tyres.

On his official website, Webber wrote: “We’re using the super soft tyre this weekend for the first time, so it will be interesting to see how that works out. But I definitely think there can be a sixth different winner this weekend, and it would be nice if that winner was me. I’ll be doing everything in my power to make it happen.”

The 35-year-old Aussie’s overall record in the principality of Monaco is pretty decent and that gives him even more confidence about securing his first win of the season this weekend.

“I love this place and it’s been pretty good to me over the years. It’s also a fabulous place to drive a grand prix car; I can’t wait to get out there,” Webber added.

Webber eyes Bahrain success

Red Bull driver Mark Webber is hoping to secure a podium finish at this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix ahead of the Formula One campaign moving on to Europe.

It has been a disappointing start to the new season for last season’s constructors’ title winners with just one podium finish from the first three races – a second place for reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel in Australia.

However, Australian driver, Webber, who is 16/1 to win the 2012 drivers’ world championship with team-mate Vettel 11/2 to retain his crown, is looking to get his and the team’s season on track in the heat of Bahrain and is 12/1 to win the race this Sunday.

“We haven’t been to the circuit for two years and the last time we raced on the current track layout was in 2009,” Webber said.

“We also haven’t been there with Pirelli tyres or the DRS, so it’s going to be interesting to see how those new features go; the ingredients are all there for another exciting Grand Prix. It’s going to be important to understand the tyres quickly and you need good top speed and braking.

“It’s a hot race, hotter than it was in Australia and Shanghai and more like the temperature in Malaysia. It would be nice to get a podium before we go back to Europe.”
