Sebastian Vettel No Vettel apology for win

Sebastian Vettel has insisted he has no regrets for winning the Malaysian Grand Prix, as he prepares for the next race in Shanghai on Sunday.

Sebastian Vettel No Vettel apology for win

Much has been written about the German overtaking his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber in Sepang nearly three weeks ago, having disobeyed team orders to win his first race of the 2013 campaign.

Ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend, Vettel has stated he has no regrets for taking the chequered flag in South East Asia but admitted he has apologised to his team for going against his instructions.

He said: “I didn’t mean to ignore the team’s order. I got a call on the radio which I didn’t understand but which I should have understood. That’s why I have apologised – because, with that action, I put myself above the team. That wasn’t my intention, although whether you believe me or not is up to you.

“I apologised to the team because the last thing I want as a team member is to disobey a team order. My intention as a racing driver was to win the race and I don’t apologise for winning the race.”

Vettel is 15/8 to win the Chinese GP this weekend, with Webber at 8/1 to take the chequered flag.

Alonso retains confidence in Ferrari

Alonso retains confidence in Ferrari

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso is confident that his team will be ready to challenge when the new Formula 1 season gets underway in Australia at the end of March.

The two-time world champion, who is 11/2 to complete a hat-trick in 2012, accepts that there is still plenty of work to do on the new F2012 car, but is confident that the Ferrari experts will get things right in time for Melbourne on Sunday 26th March.

For our part it will be useful to get off to a good start as this always takes the pressure off the team.

Fernando Alonso

Spaniard Alonso told the media: “There is still a lot of work to do, but as of today there is no reason why we should not be ready for the first race.”

Ferrari are 7/1 to win the Constructors’ Championship this season, with Alonso expecting Red Bull (10/11) to again be the team to beat after winning the title in each of the last two years.

“It is definitely too early to say where we are compared to the others. Red Bull is very strong, but that’s hardly a surprise,” Alonso added.

“For our part it will be useful to get off to a good start as this always takes the pressure off the team.”

Alonso won his two world titles in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, while in his two years with Ferrari he has finished second and fourth in the standings behind Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel on both occasions.
